We're still having phone troubles at work. You never know when a phone call will be ended. Sometimes you can complete a conversation; other times, all the calls are disconnected. Apparently, fixing the problem is not a priority....
We've got a new test site on Gauthier Road. We're looking forward to seeing how our Yankee clerk will pronounce the name. It's been slow, and we look for relief from boredom where we can find it.
Well, I've done my usual investigative work this morning. I got the names and phone numbers of the police jury members and state representative to give to my recruiting assistants. It's crunch time. We have only a few weeks left to recruit enumerators, we are not close to our goal, and things have really slowed down. I figure they are our best shot for finding people who will work for the census.
We're starting to get questions from the public about not receiving a form, or how to fill out a form. So, I've found out info for that as well. I've asked around the office, but it took me going to the census website to find out that there should be places for people to pick up a census form. Now all I have to do is to confirm that they are available.
I'm amazed at how little people think sometimes. There are some tracts where we have reached our recruiting goals, so we are not testing people from those tracts. We get an address, check it on the mapping system to see if it is in a tract that is still open. Well, this mapping system is 10 years old, so there are streets that do not appear on the map. There was this big discussion about what to do. Should we test them? Should we not? I just called them up, asked where their street was, and found the tract.
Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. ~~William Morris
