Another Day at the Census Bureau

A quick post this morning before I go off to work.  I'm working only 4 or 5 hours today.  After every 5 hours of work, you have to take a break and go off the clock for at least 30  minutes.  If you work an 8 hour or longer day, you have to take an hour off for lunch, then your next break can be  30 minutes.  Anyway, I'm not working any longer than 5 hours today.  Normally, I would work as long as I could stand it, like I did yesterday.  But I'm TOO OLD to do keep doing that.  I've got other things to do, and overtime may be required next week, or rather for the rest of this week.  Today is the first day of the work week.

But here's the thing.  Every household that did not return a census form has to be visited by an enumerator.   We are supposed to have around 1300 enumerators.  Each enumerator will receive a binder on Thursday.  We are not in the process of assembling the binders; we are in the process of getting materials ready to assemble in the binders.  Specifically, we are putting a pre-printed label for each household that has to be visited onto a census form.  I don't know how many labels we have, maybe 100,000, give or take a few ten thousands.  We had 4-5 people working on this yesterday.  At the rate we're going, we'll be done by June....

Time to go.

  1. I certainly know the feeling of being too OLD to do things that I did without thinking 20 years ago. Its just where has that 20 years gone? I will write more after Chester and I talk about your Census comments.

  2. Queenis has left a comment, but I don't see it. This is a test.
