The Census Bureau has sent out postcards advertising jobs. They have generated some interesting calls. I got a call yesterday from a woman who wanted to sit with old people. Then I got a call from a woman with an unusal first name, which I cannot divulge as it is PII, or personally identifible information. When the call started, I thought this woman would not have a chance of passing the test. But as the conversation continued, I found myself rooting for her. She was a delight. I repeated her name, and she said that she didn't like for most people to say her name because they said it flat. She liked her name to be spoken with some feeling. She was a hoot.
We are extremely busy. The phone rings incessantly, and on Monday morning, we had 147 voice mail messages. We didn't have time to call anyone back. As more people are tested, there are areas that become full, and we cannot test any more people from those areas. If someone calls from certain zip codes, we get their street address, and look it up on the computer to determine if we can test them. But an area that is full can open up again, so we keep their information on file.
Well, I'm not finished with this post, but I slept in this morning, and it's time to get moving. Gotta run.
Is this your number 101 post? Isn't that amazing?
